The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has identified areas likely to experience rainfall until the first week of January.
In a statement dated Tuesday, December 30, 2025, Kenya Met stated that heavy rainfall is expected to continue in those areas, with conditions transitioning to sunny and dry conditions.
Hot conditions are expected in coastal regions and cool nights in parts of the central highlands, the north and central rift valley, and areas near Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Kenya Met Names Regions to Experience Heavy Rainfall
According to Kenya Met, areas including the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, parts of the North-western and North-eastern regions, the Coastal region, and the South-eastern lowlands will experience Isolated thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.
Areas in the Highland West of Rift Valley include: Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Kericho, and Nandi, while counties in the East of Rift Valley are Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, and Aberdare Ranges.
Regions in coastal Kenya that include the coast region, which includes Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale counties, are also expected to receive heavy rainfall until 5, January 2026.
Areas in the Northeastern Region, including Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties, and regions in the South -eastern lowlands include Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Taita Taveta, and Kajiado.
Elsewhere, Areas in the Northeastern Region, including Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties.

During the day, temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius are expected in the coast, North-Eastern, and North-Western regions. Other regions expected to receive such temperatures include Parts of the southeastern lowlands, the Rift Valley, and Western Kenya.
At night, temperatures are expected to go below 10 degrees Celsius in parts of the central highlands, the North and Central Highlands, the North and Central Rift Valley, Western Kenya, and areas near Mt. Kilimanjaro.
However, conditions are expected to transition to sunny, dry conditions across the rest of the country for the remainder of the week.
Previous Weather Forecast from Kenya Met
Earlier, Kenya Met had issued a warning about the heavy rainfall that was to be experienced from December 25 to December 29, 2025.
In the forecast published on December 25, Kenya Met stated that occasional rainfall was anticipated over the southern half of the country, with rainfall intensity likely to increase as the period progresses.

Strong southeasterly winds, exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s), were also expected over Marsabit County.
According to Kenya Met, areas including the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley were to experience morning rains and showers in the afternoons and nights throughout the forecast period.
