Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) raided Cleophas Malala’s home in Milimani, Kakamega on Thursday, August 1.
Moreover, videos shared from the scene of the incident showed a contingent of police officers, arriving at Malala’s home.
Some of these officers a were in plain clothes.
Similarly, other videos showed one of then men, believed to be a police officer attempting to break into the former Kakamega senator’s house with a lock cutter.
The officers claimed that Cleophas Malala had locked himself inside the house.
Nevertheless , Martha Malala who is the ex senator’s mom while addressing journalists during the incident, condemed what she termed as the unfair treatment of her son by the police officers.
In addition, she named the incumbent Governor, Fernandes Barasa, and the outgoing governor, Wycliffe Oparanya as responsible for the incident.
“This is not fair to the Kenyan people, we are Kenyans and we are going to fight over this, let us go to court,” Martha stated
“Barasa got his votes, let him relax as governor of Kakamega, tell Oparanya to get out of this, tell Oparanya his son cannot be tortured like this,” she added.
According to Cleophas Malala’s staffer, the detectives who ambushed his home neither talked to anyone, nor showed a search warrant.
Furthermore, Malala, was eyeing the Kakamega Governor seat, but conceded defeat after losing to ODM’s Fernades Barasa.

Fernandes Barasa garnered 192,768 votes against his closest challenger, Malala, who got 59,275 votes.
