Residents of Makutano in Mbeere South constituency, Embu county, were shocked after two decomposing bodies were discovered dumped in the River Tana on Monday, May 23.
Area police officers were sent to the scene after receiving a call from the residents.
The Mbeere South sub county police commander Gregory Mutiso, reported that the bodies of two men aged between 25 to 30 were found stuffed in sacks.
According to the police commander, the bodies had strangulation marks on the necks and are suspected to have been murdered elsewhere before being dumped in the river.
Mr. Mutiso stated that the deceased have not yet been identified, but investigations into the matter are ongoing. He further urged residents to be extra vigilant and to report suspicious people to the police so as to prevent such incidents.
The bodies have been moved to Embu level 5 hospital mortuary for autopsy.
