The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has apprehended a suspected drug trafficker on a Nairobi-bound bus from Moyale.
The 24-year-old suspect identified as Charles Obaga Kavehere, was forcibly removed from the bus and found to be carrying a substantial amount of cocaine.
According to the DCI, their anti-narcotics detectives, supported by the Operations Support Unit, intercepted the bus belonging to Score Investment Ltd at the Blue Post Hotel area in Thika.
Acting on intelligence information, the officers conducted a thorough search of the vehicle, leading to the discovery of 417 grams of cocaine hidden under the inner soles of Kavehere’s shoes.
“A drug trafficker was early this morning ejected from a Nairobi-bound bus from Moyale and from him 417g of Cocaine discovered hidden under the inner soles of his rubber shoes,” read the statement by DCI.
The seized cocaine is estimated to be worth Ksh1.8 million, underscoring the significant impact of this operation.

The suspect is taken to JKIA for Screening
Further screening at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport revealed that Kavehere had also swallowed additional drug filled sachets that he intended to egest upon arrival at his destination.
“Detectives established that, besides the 417g estimated at Sh1.8 million, he had swallowed more drugs that he intended to egest at the destination,” the DCI reported.
Kavehere is currently in the custody of the JKIA-ANU (Airport Narcotics Unit) officers, where he is being held pending the egestion of the swallowed drugs and the completion of further legal procedures.

This incident highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat the growing threat of drug trafficking in the country.
Similar Incidences of drug trafficking
In a similar case, detectives from the DCI recently arrested a woman at JKIA who had hidden 600 grams of cocaine hidden inside her undergarments.
The DCI reported that the woman on March 26, attempted to board a plane to Madagascar from the JKIA where they detected the suspicious contraband in her privates.
“A body scanner at the checkpoint revealed suspicious items concealed around her privates, triggering a quick search that saw 600g of the highly addictive drug discovered,” explained the DCI.
