A 55-year-old woman committed suicide by hanging herself with a rope on a mango tree in Kiriani, Chogoria Ward.
According to Kiriani Sub-Location Chief Jasper Gitonga Murithi, the deceased took her own life after confirming that her son and daughter-in-law had already left home for work.
The deceased, Catherine Gatiria on Monday October took her own life for reasons not known.
Catherine’s husband had also left the home to sell milk at a neighboring dairy.
The body was moved to PCEA Chogoria Hospital morgue, awaiting postmortem.
The area chief reported the incident to a higher authority after which the OCS Chogoria Police station and the DCIO proceeded to the scene.
After a not so thorough investigation, the OCS concluded that it was indeed suicide, as the woman had no visible injuries.
Catherine’s son confirmed that her mother had been okay, as she showed no signs of depression or any other mental illness.
The family is devastated as the reason for the suicide is unknown, having left no note behind before she committed the heinous act.
Suicide cases have been on the rise in Kenya, as the ministry of health encourages people to create suicide prevention awareness and be there for each other.
Chief Gitonga asked residents, especially those facing depression, to seek help from friends and family before taking such actions.
