The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) allows dissatisfied Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates to file complaints following the release of results.
KNEC acknowledges receipt of such complaints coming from some candidates who sit the national tests and several schools who apply for a review of the results of their respective schools.

First, it is important to note that queries on results should be made within thirty days from the date of release of the examination results, according to the KNEC Act.
To lodge the complaint, the candidate or school is required to formally write to the examination council detailing the reason for the appeal.

The applicant submitting any request to the Council for resolution is also required to provide all the evidence to enable the Council process and validate the query promptly.

The Council, upon receiving an application, considers the evidence to make a decision.
It is however upon the KNEC in its determination to decide whether to approve or reject the request.
The decision made in response to the review is then communicated to the applicant within 90 days from the date of receipt of the application in writing.
Such a decision, according to KNEC, is final.
In case of any change, the applicant is required to return the result slip, certificate or any other official document issued before.
“A candidate shall return such a certificate before the corrected result slip, certificate or diploma can be issued to the candidate,” the rules state.
The KCSE 2024 exams officially ended on November 22, 2024, which saw the commencement of marking by examiners.

KCSE 2024 Features
Last year’s KCSE examinations papers featured new specialized features introduced by the examinations’ council as part of its innovations aimed at curbing cheating.
The features were highlighted by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba who was speaking on October 4, 2024, during the launch of the 2024 national examinations and assessments season at Mitihani House in Nairobi.
CS Ogamba revealed the raft of changes effected to the papers while urging all the stakeholders involved in the entire ecosystem of administering examinations and assessments to pay attention to the innovations introduced by KNEC.
Students who sat for the national examinations had their papers customized with their examination details names, index number and other personal details pre-printed on the papers.
