The Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) has clarified that ongoing regulatory discussions with the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) only affect its diploma and certificate programs.
In a statement on April 21, 2026, KIM said the regulatory matter is limited to TVET-regulated academic programs, adding that all other services continue without interruption.
“Following our recent updates on the TVETA notice, we wish to clarify a critical distinction regarding the scope of this regulatory matter. It is important to clarify that the current discussions with TVETA are exclusively limited to our Diploma and Certificate courses,” read part of the statement.

The institution stated that its membership services, including professional grades and benefits, remain active, while its certification programs are still valid and ongoing.
KIM further noted that corporate training, consultancy services, and its flagship Company of the Year Awards (COYA) are proceeding as scheduled.
The institute assured the public that it remains a membership-based professional organization focused on promoting excellence in management practice, and that the issue under review does not affect its broader professional mandate.
KIM added that it is working to resolve the matter affecting only the academic segment of its operations, while assuring stakeholders of continuity in its services.

Gives Way Forward
On April 20, the institution assured students that it is reviewing the contents of a notice from the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) regarding the closure of its campuses.
KIM further said it has also begun engaging relevant regulatory authorities to address the issues raised and determine the appropriate legal course of action.
The institution urged students, alumni, partners, and the public to remain calm and rely on official communication channels for accurate updates as the matter unfolds.

Why Govt Closed the Institution
TVETA found that the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) had been delivering and awarding academic and professional qualifications without the required accreditation.
The authority stated that the institution was initially authorized to offer only programs assessed and certified by TVET-CDACC but allegedly extended its operations beyond the approved mandate.
TVETA also pointed to two main violations. It said KIM had been running unapproved programs and issuing academic qualifications in breach of the TVET Act.
In addition, the regulator found that the institution had engaged trainers who lacked valid training licenses, as required by the TVET Act.
