The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has asked parents and guardians of candidates registered for the 2026 national assessments and examinations to confirm their children’s registration details.
In a notice issued on April 17, KNEC said that the candidates’ national assessment or examination confirmation can be made through a newly activated SMS service.
“Are you a parent/guardian of a candidate for the 2026 national assessment or examination? You can now confirm your child’s registration status through SMS,” stated KNEC.
The council said the service applies to candidates sitting the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA), and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
To access the service, parents and guardians must send the candidate’s assessment number or index number via SMS to the short code 20076.

KNEC Urges Parents to Verify Names, Subjects and Personal Details
According to KNEC, the verification process allows parents and guardians to check essential candidate information, including the correct spelling and order of names, gender, date of birth, school of registration, citizenship status, and registered subjects.
For KPSEA and KJSEA candidates, parents are expected to verify the Kiswahili or Kenyan Sign Language options, as well as the Religious Education options. KCSE candidates are required to confirm the optional subjects registered for the examination.
KNEC said the verification exercise must be completed before the set deadline to allow time for corrections.
The council said the exercise is intended to ensure accurate candidate records and safeguard the credibility of the 2026 national assessments and examinations.
Parents and guardians with further queries have been advised to consult the heads of their respective institutions for guidance.
“The deadline for confirmation is 30th April 2026. In case of any queries, please contact your Head of Institution.”

How KNEC Conducted Registration for 2026 National Assessment Candidates
Registration for the 2026 national assessments and examinations was launched in February, following the Ministry of Education and the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) releasing the registration timelines.
The registration for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) opened on February 16, while registration for the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) began on March 2.
The registration exercise for all three assessments closed on March 31, 2026, with KPSEA registration ending earlier on March 16, 2026.
According to the council, schools registered candidates online using the their systems, where they were required to enter each learner’s personal details, assessment numbers, and selected subjects within the set deadlines.
During this period, KNEC issued several official notices explaining who was eligible to register and cautioning schools against late registration or the entry of incorrect information.
The Ministry of Education, however, has raised concerns that mistakes still occur during registration, including misspelled names, wrong dates of birth, incorrect subject choices, and cases where some learners are completely left out of the registration process.
In previous years, such mistakes have caused problems of delayed release of results, disagreements between parents and schools, and difficulties in issuing examination certificates.
