Amos Wanjala is a fast-rising Kenyan defender currently playing for Athletic Club Torrellano in Spain’s Tercera Federación, the country’s fourth-tier league.
Early Life and Education
Amos Emmanuel Wanjala was born on March 28, 2006, in Mombasa, Kenya, and raised by his mother, Cecilia Mshai.
Amos has credited his mother for his discipline and faith, saying she raised him with good morals, which have shaped his character both on and off the pitch.
Away from football, Wanjala developed a passion for music at an early age.
By the age of six, he was playing drums and piano in church, a talent that remains part of his identity today.
His formal education and football foundation came at St. Anthony’s Boys High School, Kitale, a school renowned for producing top football talent in Kenya.
Wanjala quickly established himself as a leader, captaining the “Solidarity Boys” to win the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) national title in August 2023.
That victory marked a turning point in his life, attracting scouts and earning him a scholarship to Nàstic Sports Academy in Tarragona, Spain, where his professional journey began.
Career
Amos Emmanuel Wanjala’s football journey began at St. Anthony’s Boys High School, Kitale. After the impressive 2-0 national title win in the final after defeating Dagoretti High School, he earned the scholarship to Nàstic Sports Academy.
The academy, affiliated with Gimnàstic de Tarragona, offers elite football training and academic programs. Wanjala transitioned into the Spanish education system, pursuing a degree in Global Sports and Business Management at Nàstic Sports University while continuing his football development.
By January 2024, Wanjala signed professional terms with Gimnàstic Tarragona U19, making his debut against Barcelona U19 in March 2024.
Coaches at Nàstic praised his versatility, deploying him as a centre-back, right-back, and defensive midfielder.
In August 2024, Wanjala joined Athletic Club Torrellano, a Spanish club competing in the Tercera Federación, Spain’s fourth tier.
The move was facilitated by a collaboration between Torrellano and Nàstic Sports Academy to develop international talent.
His contract runs until June 2026, and he wears jersey number 25 for the club.
Internationally, Wanjala captained Kenya U18 to a second-place finish at the CECAFA U18 Championship in Kisumu in December 2023, then led the Kenya U20 team through the 2024 CECAFA U20 Championship and COSAFA Cup, helping Kenya qualify for the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Cairo.
His leadership and performances earned him a senior call-up to the Harambee Stars in November 2024 for AFCON 2025 qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Namibia.
