US President Donald Trump has announced a trade agreement with the United Kingdom, calling it a milestone deal built on reciprocity and fairness in global commerce.
Speaking from the Oval Office on May 8, 2025, Trump said that the agreement includes billions of dollars in American exports such as beef, ethanol, agricultural products, chemicals, machinery, and steel.
The deal will also see the UK fast-track American goods through customs, eliminating red tape to ensure quick approval of exports.
Trump asserted that the agreement would bring the UK into closer economic security alignment with the US, describing it as a big economic security blanket.
Trump’s Deal with the UK
Speaking by phone from London during the announcement, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the occasion as a remarkable and significant day, stating the long-standing relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States.
Starmer noted the symbolic timing of the deal, which was falling on VE Day, the Victory in Europe Day, a moment that commemorates the Allied victory in Europe during World War II.
“The timing could not be more apt. On this day, the UK and the US stood together as the closest of allies,” he said.
Trump congratulated Starmer on becoming the prime minister who delivered the long-anticipated trade agreement, saying the deal had taken years before its conclusion.

Trade Deals Between US-UK
“This president and this prime minister have managed to achieve what many people have tried to achieve for many years,” he added.
Further, the US president thanked Starmer and said that final details of the deal are expected to be finalised in the coming weeks.
US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick stated that the immense value of the UK market for American exporters.
He highlighted that the new trade deal significantly expands market access for US products, notably ethanol, beef, and agricultural goods from American farmers.
“This deal will add $5 billion of opportunity to American exporters,” Lutnick stated.
He also noted that the U.S. will maintain a 10% tariff, which is projected to generate $6 billion in revenue for the country.

US-China Trade Deal
He also revealed that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is scheduled to travel to Switzerland this weekend for trade negotiations with China, suggesting renewed momentum in U.S.-China talks.
Trump added that additional trade deals with other nations are nearing completion and claimed that China is eager to reach an agreement with the US.
