The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has opened applications for short-term employment opportunities across the country.
In a notice, the commission stated that it is hiring voter registration clerks to serve in 57 Huduma Centres nationwide.
IEBC is also recruiting poll officials in preparation for the by-elections slated for November 27, 2025.
The upcoming by-elections will aim to fill multiple seats, including the Senate seat in Baringo County and six National Assembly constituencies: Banissa, Kasipul, Magarini, Malava, Mbeere North, and Ugunja.
In addition, elections will be held for 17 Members of County Assembly (MCAs) in the following wards: Chewani (Tana River), Fafi (Garissa), Mumbuni North (Machakos), Lake Zone (Turkana), Nanaam (Turkana), Angata Nanyokie (Samburu), Tembeilo (Uasin Gishu), Metkei (Elgeyo Marakwet), Chemundu (Nandi), Narok Town (Narok), Purko (Kajiado), Kisa East (Kakamega), Nyamaiya (Nyamira), Ekerenyo (Nyamira), Nyanisongo (Nyamira), Kariobangi North (Nairobi), and Kabuchai (Bungoma).
IEBC has since invited qualified Kenyans to apply as voter registration clerks nationwide and as poll officials serving in various roles for the by-elections in different electoral areas.

These include the Presiding and Deputy Presiding Officers, Ward-Based Voter Educators, Polling Counting Clerks, ICT Clerks, and Support Electoral Trainers (SETs).
IEBC opens applications for nationwide temporary jobs
Selected Kenyans will be remunerated with wages ranging from Ksh1,000 to Ksh2,500 per day.
Voter Registration Clerk
According to IEBC, successful applicants will:
- Operate biometric registration kits (KIEMS/VIU tablets).
- Verify the eligibility of applicants as per electoral laws.
- Assist applicants in filling out registration forms accurately.
- Ensure safe custody of registration equipment and materials.
- Report and transmit voter registration data daily to Registration Officers.
- Uphold IEBC’s code of conduct, data protection, and confidentiality.
- Provide courteous and inclusive service to all individuals, including those with disabilities and vulnerable groups.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Job requirements
Qualifications and experience
- Be a Kenyan citizen aged 19 years and above.
- Hold a minimum KCSE C- (minus) or its equivalent.
- Possess computer literacy and ICT skills.
- A diploma in ICT, Statistics, Education, Business Administration, or a related field will be an added advantage.
- Demonstrate integrity, accountability, and confidentiality.
Registration Clerks based at Huduma Centres will be paid Ksh1,500 per day.

Presiding Officer and Deputy Presiding Officer
The Presiding Officer (PO) will perform the duties underlisted by IEBC while the Deputy Presiding Officer (DPO) will deputize the PO in performing the same.
POs will be paid Ksh2,000 per day, while DPOs will be paid Ksh1,800 per day.
Voter Educator and Polling/Counting Clerk
The Ward-based Voter Educator will report to the Constituency Voter Educator and carry out the tasks listed below.
County Voter Educators will be paid Ksh2,500, Constituency Voter Educators Ksh2,000, and Ward-based Voter Educators Ksh1,500 per day.
Polling Clerks/Counting Clerks, who will be reporting to the Presiding Officer, will be paid Ksh1,000 per day.
ICT Clerk
They will be tasked with providing high-quality first-level ICT support services to the Returning Officer at the tallying centre.
Successful applicants will also have a duty of restoring normal services to the users as quickly as possible by fixing technical hitches, fulfilling service requests, or answering queries to allow the users to work effectively.
They will further prepare, configure, and test KIEMS kits in readiness for the elections, among other responsibilities. ICT clerks will be paid Ksh1,500 per day.
Support Electoral Trainer (SET)
Among their duties and responsibilities will be to assist in the training of Presiding Officers, Deputy Presiding Officers and Clerks. The training involves polling, counting, and tallying. SETs will be paid Ksh2,000 per day.

Interested applicants are required to submit their applications online via the IEBC Job Portal (https://jobs.iebc.or.ke) by October 16, 2025. Here, applicants can also access the detailed duties, responsibilities, and requirements for each category of vacant positions.
Only online applications will be considered; any form of canvassing will result in automatic disqualification. The IEBC also noted that successful candidates should be prepared to work extended hours, depending on the demands of the exercise.
This announcement comes shortly after the commission resumed its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, through which it intends to register 6.3 million new voters.
In the current phase, IEBC is targeting 10 percent of this number. The first enhanced CVR, covering 40 percent of the target, will begin after the November by-elections, with a second phase planned for the next financial year.
