The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has announced the recruitment of 1,500 young and dynamic individuals as Cadets, Assistant Warden 150, and Rangers 1,350.

In an advert on March 19, interested candidates should be able to endure the condition for training and deployment to various conservation areas.

This is in response to the wildlife protection challenges currently being experienced in the country.

“Recruitment exercise shall take place from Monday April 15, 2024, to Friday April 19, 2024 and candidates are required to turn up in appropriate running gear at 8: 00a.m,” the advert read in part.

KWS Recruitment Venue in Varius Counties

On April 15, the recruitment will be conducted in the following counties: Lamu (Mokowe Airstrip), Marsabit (Marsabit Police Field), Isiolo (Isiolo County Police Ground), Embu (Njukiri Show Ground), Kitui (Kitui Stadium), Machakos (Kenyatta Stadium) and Turkana (Lodwar Prisons Groun).

KWS will also recruit cadets in West Pokot (Makutano Stadium), Samburu (Kenyatta Stadium), Nandi (Kapsabet Show Ground), Migori (Migori Stadium) and Kisii (Gatembe Primary School) on the same day.

“The recruitment will be conducted only in the designated recruitment centers and dates by a team of KWS officers,” said the Service.

The recruitment will be done in Tana River (Hola Stadium), Meru (Kinoru Stadium), Makueni (Makueni Police Playground), Kirinyanga (Kerugoya Stadium), Trans Nzoia (ASK Show Ground), Uasin Gishu (64 Stadium), Laikipia (Ramuruti Stadium), Homabay (Raila Odinga Stadium) and Nyamira (Nyamira Primary School) on April 16.

Further, the exercise will be held in the following counties on April 17: Kilifi (Karitha Maitha Stadium), Wajir (Wajir County Stadium), Tharaka Nithi (Kathwana Stadium), Murang’a (Wangombe Waihura Stadium), Elgeyo Marakwet (Iten Stadium), Kajiado (Ildamat/Show Ground), Bomet (Bomet Green Stadium), Bungoma (Bungoma Airstrip) and Kisumu (Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium).

“The exercise is absolutely free of charge and KWS will not be responsible for any recruitment conducted outside stated guidelines,” KWS warned.

Recruitment in Other Counties

Subsequently, cadets will be recruited in Mombasa (Mombasa ASK Show Ground), Taita Taveta (Voi Stadium), Garissa (Garissa PTC Ground) and Nyeri (Ruring’u Stadium) om April 18.

The recruitment will also be conducted in Kiambu (Ndumberi Stadium), Baringo (Kabarnet Stadium), Kericho (Kericho Green Stadium), Kakamega (Kakamega Show Ground) and Siaya (Siaya Institute of Technology) on the same day.

“Persons with disability, women, those from marginalized areas and minority communities are encouraged to apply,” the statement read.

The last day of recruitment will be conducted as follows: Kwale (Kwale County Stadium), Mandera (Moi Mandera County Stadium), Nyandarua (Ol Kalou Stadium), Nakuru (Nakuru Show Ground), Narok (William Ole Ntimama Stadium), Vihiga (Kindundu Stadium), Busia (Busia Stadium) and Nairobi (Nyayo Stadium).

KWS Assistant Warden Requirements & Application Procedure

The applicant must be a citizen of Kenya, 28 years old and below, of good health and physique and have no criminal record.

“Successful candidates will be required to undergo mandatory paramilitary training for a period of nine (9) months and thereafter be deployed to the field,” KWS said.

Interested candidates must be holders of bachelor’s degree minimum of 2nd class honors lower division in Wildlife Management, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Science, Range Management, Veterinary Medicine, Criminology & Security Management, Tourism Management, Education, Sociology or Community Development from a recognized institution.

How to Apply

Follow the following steps to apply.

1.Obtain the prescribed application form free of charge from either the nearest KWS National Park Station or download from the KWS website: www.kws.go.ke.

2.Fill/complete the prescribed application form.

3.Attach copies of relevant academic à professional certificates, testimonials, National ID Card/ Passport and detailed CV indicating work experience, current remuneration and employer, same and contacts of at least two (2) referee.

4.Submit the complete application form together with the attachments to the address below not later than Monday 8 April 2024 at 4.30pm.

Rangers Job Requirements

The applicant must be a citizen of Kenya aged between 18 and 26 years.

They must hold a Kenya National Identity Card/Passport and hail from the County of recruitment.

Interested candidates must possess a minimum mean grade of “D” (Plain) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination or its equivalent from an examination body recognized in Kenya:

Applicants must be physically and medically lit and have no criminal record.

“National Youth Service (NYS) graduates who meet the above requirements are encouraged to apply,” the advert read in part.

Successful candidates will undergo mandatory paramilitary training for a period of six (6) months and thereafter be deployed to the field.

4.Carry with you and present the filled prescribed application form together with the attached academic certificates, testimonials, and National ID Card/Passport at the recruitment center.

“Applicants must also present original academic certificates, testimonials, and National ID Card/Passport at the recruitment center for verification,’ KWS said.

KWS is mandated to conserve and manage national parks, sanctuaries and wildlife in the country and enforce related Laws and Regulations.

The Service is also responsible for management and protection of important and critical water catchment areas and also complements other National Security Agencies in combating insecurity and counter-terrorism initiatives.
