The Standard Group has confirmed the appointment of Chaacha Mwita as its substantive Chief Executive Officer and announced a change in the Company Secretary role.
In a notice dated April 1, the Standard Group Board of Directors said Mwita’s appointment takes effect from 1 April 2026. He has been serving as Acting Chief Executive Officer since July 2025.
“The Board of Directors of The Standard Group PLC wishes to notify its shareholders and the investing public that Mr Chaacha Mwita has been appointed as the substantive Chief Executive Officer of the Company with effect from 1 April 2026,” read part of the notice.
Standard Group Confirms Chacha Mwita After Performance Assessment
According to the Standard Group, the decision was made following a formal selection process and a review of Mwita’s performance during his time as Acting Chief Executive Officer from July 2025 onward.
During this time, Mwita guided the company’s operations and ensured continuity as it worked towards its business plans.

He has extensive experience in leadership and management and has held senior roles focused on running organizations and implementing strategy. Mwita holds an MBA from the University of St Gallen in Switzerland, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communication and a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Nairobi.
The Board said the appointment meets capital markets regulatory requirements and follows accepted corporate governance standards.
Catherine Kawira Named New Company Secretary
Standard Group also announced the appointment of Catherine Kawira Bariu as the new company secretary following the retirement of Millicent Ngetich.
“In accordance with the provisions of the Capital Markets Act and its regulations, the Board of Directors of The Standard Group PLC wishes to announce changes with respect to the position of Company Secretary, stated the Standard Group. The company added, “the Board has appointed Ms Catherine Kawira Bariu as the new Company Secretary.”

Millicent Ng’etich stepped down from her role as Company Secretary on 31 March, and the company thanked her for her service and commitment to the Group during her time in the role and wished her success in her future career.s.
The newly appointed secretary, Catherine Kawira, is a Certified Secretary and an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with over 10 years of experience in corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and legal advisory work.
She holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) in Corporate Governance from the University of Nairobi, a Bachelor of Laws from Kenyatta University, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. She is a member of the Institute of Certified Secretaries and the Law Society of Kenya.
Her professional background includes providing company secretarial services to private sector organizations and serving at the Capital Markets Authority, where she worked in market supervision and compliance. She has also previously worked at the Judiciary as a legal research assistant.
The Board welcomed Bariu and said her experience would support the Group’s governance and compliance obligations.
