ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru has told off Kenya Kwanza coalition leaders over their claims that he is working to influence the outcome of the August polls in favour of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition’s presidential candidate Raila Odinga .
On Thursday, the William Ruto Presidential Campaign Secretariat lashed at CS Mucheru for taking a partisan stand while still serving as a government minister.
William Ruto presidential campaign secretariat Director and Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok alleged a plot by senior civil servants led by CS Mucheru to influence the conduct and the outcome of the August 2022 election using state resources.
But Mucheru tweeted a response accusing Governor Nanok of hypocrisy.
“A Governor, Campaign for a Presidential candidate, who continues to remain as the Deputy President, is writing to IEBC about a CS in the same Government, to explain how he will use resources? How about the Governor and the DP, what resources are they using? Who is fooling who?” Mucheru tweeted.
Nanok called on the IEBC to summon Mucheru to shed light on what he meant by saying his ministry was working to ensure Azimio leader Raila Odinga wins the August polls
“Of concern to us is the critical role the Ministry of ICT plays in supervising and overseeing the Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK). CAK provides the technological framework for IEBC to conduct digital registration, digital tallying and relaying of results electronically, which affects the verifiability, transparency, accountability and credibility of elections as per the Constitution,” said Nanok.
Kenya Kwanza also wants IEBC to act against CSs Fred Matiangi, Eugene Wamalwa, Peter Munya and Mutahi Kagwe for allegedly breaching Section 15 of the Election Offences Act 2016.
Garissa Town MP Aden Duale and Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya had also called on IEBC to summon Mucheru.
