Barely a day after the Political Parties’ Dispute Tribunal ordered the United Democratic Alliance(UDA) party to conduct fresh primaries in Naivasha and Kipipiri constituencies, the party’s national elections board has announced MP Jayne Kihara and Wanjiku Muhia as their candidates for the August polls in Naivasha and Kipiriri constituencies respectively .
In a press statement sent to newsrooms Monday evening, UDA’s elections board chairman Anthony Mwaura said that the party had opted to use the indirect nomination method pursuant to Section 38G of the political parties Act.
According to Mwaura, the party’s national elections board(NEB) conducted interviews on Monday 2nd though which the two emerged as suitable candidates to fly the party’s flag in the two constituencies .
In the Naivasha consistency case, former MP John Kihiga filed a petition after his initial win in the primaries was nullified by UDA’s NEB and the certificate issued to Kihara who is the sitting MP.
His petition was successful after the political parties’ dispute tribunal nullified Kihara’s certificate and ordered a repeat of the nomination exercise.
On the other hand , John Kagimbi had successfully petitioned against the declaration of Wanjiku Muhia as the winner of the primaries with the party also being ordered to conduct the nomination exercise afresh.
