After outsmarting thousands of competitors across Kenya and worldwide, John Tingoi, a Chuka University student and a World Quant Researcher, is set to represent the country at the Quantitative Finance/Research in Singapore.
John Tingoi, a final-year student of Applied Computer Science at Chuka University, earned a coveted place on the world stage after winning the Kenyan leg of the 2025 International Quant Championship.
John Tingoi wins the IQC 2025 Kenya Finals
Competing against about 9,000 contestants in Kenya and nearly 80,000 participants worldwide, Tingoi emerged as the national winner in July 2025.
John Tingoi’s victory secured him a spot among just 12 global finalists who will face off at the International Quant Championship Global Finals in Singapore on 29–30 September 2025.
The championship, organised by global quantitative asset management firm WorldQuant, tests advanced skills in mathematics, coding and statistics to develop predictive financial models.
Alongside his studies, John Tingoi works remotely as a WorldQuant Researcher, applying complex algorithms to forecast market movements and manage investment risk.

In his final year project, John Tingoi is working on a Blockchain-Based Healthcare Records Management System, demonstrating the breadth of his expertise beyond finance.
About the International Quant Championship
The 2025 International Quant Championship (IQC) Global Finals is a premier quantitative finance competition hosted by WorldQuant BRAIN. It is a three-stage, team-based contest running from March to September 2025, involving university teams building predictive models (“alphas”) using historical market data on WorldQuant’s platform. The key stages are:
- Stage 1: Qualifier round (March 18 – May 19, 2025) for university teams of 1 to 4 members.
- Stage 2: National/Regional round (May 27 – mid-July 2025), including virtual and some in-person rounds to select representatives for the Global Finals.
- Stage 3: Global Finals (September 2025), expected to be held live in Singapore with 12 finalist teams from different countries.
International Quant Championship Awards
At the Global Finals, teams compete live by presenting their models to senior WorldQuant judges and face evaluation based on originality, quality, and model diversification.

Cash prizes totalling KSh 13.2 million (USD 100,000) are awarded, with 1st place receiving KSh 2.6 million (USD 20,000), 2nd place KSh 1.6 million (USD 12,000), and 3rd place KSh 1.0 million (USD 8,000).
Additionally, top performers may be considered for research consulting, internships, or full-time jobs at WorldQuant.
Notably, a Kenyan finalist from Chuka University, John Tingoi, was one of the 12 global finalists.
He outperformed nearly 89,000 participants worldwide and will represent Kenya in the finals held in Singapore on September 29.
