Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has reshuffled her cabinet, seen as a move to oust rebels. In a statement on Monday, December 1, 2025, Wanga, who is also the ODM National Chairman, unveiled changes in the County Executive Committee (CEC) days after threatening to fire disloyal aides.
The reshuffle came days after the ODM candidate she backed, Boyd Were, won the parliamentary seat in Kasipul on November 28, 2025. Boyd Were garnered 16,819 votes against independent candidate Philip Aroko’s 8,476.
Wanga said that she made the changes to streamline operations for the devolved unit.
“We’ve made changes to the membership of the County Executive Committee, effective immediately. This restructuring initiates a new phase of focused administration for our county,” she stated.
The governor, who is rallying the Orange Party to support President William Ruto’s administration added: “In order to enhance service delivery, to better serve the people of Homa Bay County, while exercising the powers bestowed on me as the Governor and pursuant to Sections 30,31 and 35 of the County Governments Act, I do hereby :- Re-assign Mr. Danish Onyango to serve not only as the County Executive Committee Member for Roads, Public Works, Transport and Infrastructure but to further serve as the Acting County Executive Committee Member in charge of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Development.”
Wanga fires aide
Dr. Peter Ogolla was removed from his role as the CEC Member for Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, and Urban Development, and Joseph Mitito, who was described by the county boss as a consummate professional with strong leadership skills from Homa Bay Town, was nominated to replace him, pending Homa Bay County Assembly approval.
However, Wanga did not explain why she fired Dr. Ogolla.
“The changes herein take effect immediately. The County Secretary is tasked to ensure smooth handing over by those affected. I issue this Executive Order on this 1″ Day of December 2025 under my hand,” declared Wanga on the public notice.
Political Rifts
Wanga, a first-time Governor, is fighting for her survival and is battling wars from within. Her Deputy, Oyugi Magwanga, remains a thorn in her flesh. During the by-election occasioned by the assassination of Ong’ondo Were, Magwanga, in open defiance, supported Aroko, while Wanga campaigned for the ODM candidate.

Pressure has been mounting on Magwanga to resign and launch his gubernatorial bid, as he has shown interest in ousting Wanga at the ballot.
In her post-Kasipul victory address, Wanga dared critics in her administration to resign if they couldn’t align, directing the punch at her deputy as a signal to enforce discipline ahead of 2027.b
“The other day, we were doing campaigns for Boyd, but other people turned it around as a campaign to dethrone me. Men ganged up against me. They did not know it was all because of God that I rose to this position. They thought they were out to finish me, but they were fighting themselves,” she said.

Reacting to the reshuffle, Geoffery Moturi on X said, “Shock Move! Homa Bay CECs Shake-Up Sees Double Roles, Dismissals, and Fresh Faces. Governor Gladys Nyasuna Wanga just went full musical chairs: Danish Onyango now doubling as Roads and Agriculture CEC, Dr. Peter Ogolla shown the door, and Joseph Mitito enters the stage. Service delivery just got… interesting!”
Wanga is also seen as a potential running mate for President William Ruto in 2027, following the Broad-Based government deal.
