Biography
Alice Wahome is the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Lands, Public Works, Housing, and Urban Development.
Alice Wahome Life Before Politics
Before entering the political arena, Wahome had established herself as a successful lawyer.
She earned her law degree from the University of Nairobi in 1984 and later completed a post-graduate diploma at the Kenya School of Law.
Following her education, she worked as a State Counsel in the Attorney General’s Chambers from 1985 to 1988.
Afterward, she founded her own law firm, A. M. Wahome and Company Advocates, which allowed her to build a reputation in legal circles.
She served as the vice-chairperson of the Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (FIDA) and was an active member of the Law Society of Kenya’s council.
Her legal expertise helped her address critical issues affecting her constituents, particularly those related to gender equality and social justice.
She is married to Godfrey Wahome and has four children, managing to balance her family responsibilities with her political commitments.
Her determination and resilience have made her a prominent figure in Kenyan politics, often referred to as the “Iron Lady” of Kandara.
Political Career
Her political career began in 2002, but she rose to prominence after winning the Kandara parliamentary seat in 2013.
She was among the sixteen women who were elected as MPs against the 274 men that were elected at the time.
Later in 2017, during the general elections, she reclaimed her seat vying under the ruling party Jubilee.
In the 2022 August elections, Wahome was further re-elected for a third term on a UDA ticket.
During her tenure, Wahome quickly became known for her strong advocacy for women’s rights and human rights.
She has actively involved in various initiatives aimed at promoting education for girls and empowering women in various sectors.
