Dankit Nassiuma is an academic, statistician, and university administrator known for his work in higher education leadership, research, and national data systems.
In his career spanning decades, he has served as a lecturer, consultant, Vice-Chancellor of two universities, and now the Chancellor of Moi University.

Dankit Nassiuma Education Background
Nassiuma pursued undergraduate studies in mathematics and statistics, earning a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Nairobi.
He later proceeded to Canada, where he enrolled at the University of Manitoba, earning both a Master of Science in Statistics and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Statistics.
He completed his PhD in 1992, undertaking advanced research in statistical theory and applications.

Career
Dankit Nassiuma began his academic career as a lecturer in mathematics and statistics, gradually rising through the ranks based on experience, scholarship, and leadership.
He spent part of his academic career at Egerton University, where he served in several key roles, including as Director of Postgraduate Studies, a member of the Faculty of Science, and a University Senate representative. In these roles, he oversaw postgraduate programmes, research standards, and academic governance.
Between 2004 and 2007, Prof. Nassiuma served as Project Manager for the Kenya Household Integrated Budget Survey (KIHBS), a major government research project that generated household-level data for national planning, budgeting, and policy development. The survey remains one of Kenyaās most important sources of socioāeconomic data.
He also contributed to the National Statistical System (STATCAP) project, supported by development partners including the World Bank, DFID, IDA, and the Government of Kenya.

Nassiuma’s Leadership Legacy
One of Prof. Nassiumaās most notable achievements is serving as Vice Chancellor of two universities.
From 2007 to 2012, he served as ViceāChancellor of Kabarak University, where he played a key role in strengthening academic structures, governance systems, and institutional growth during an important phase in the universityās development.
Dankit Nassiuma served as ViceāChancellor of Africa International University (AIU) between 2013 and 2023. During his time at the university, AIU expanded its range of academic programmes, enhanced postgraduate studies, and strengthened links with institutions in the region and beyond. Dankit had also served as Director of the Institute for the Study of African Realities at the university.
In July 2024, President William Ruto appointed Nassiuma as Chancellor of Moi University. He formally took up the role during the universityās 46th graduation ceremony in December 2024 and is serving a fiveāyear term.
Nassiuma is a published scholar and author, having written several books and research articles that simplify statistical methods for students, researchers, and policymakers.
