For the longest time now, Kenyans have been up in arms with Nigerian musicians whom they’ve been accusing of invading their market.
Many have been against Naija music because of their genre, language and vibe which they claim most Kenyan artistes have been trying to copy just but to compete with the “foreigners”.
Well, a revered Nigerian musician who goes by Shawboya alias The Gengetone Oga went back to the drawing board and emerged with a style that resonates with the Kenyan audience.
The Kenya Times has learnt that Shawboya, who is the leader of a music duo going by the name Chop Life Gang is in the final stages of dropping a brand new club banger about Nairobi life, it’s women and party lifestyle.
Dubbed Nairobi My City, the soon to be released jam milled around how Nairobi women are beautiful but full of trouble.
Shawboya and his buddies also used the opportunity to praise Nairobi, it’s leadership, party life and everything good about the city, including a mention of the governor, Johnson Sakaja.
In one line, Shawboya AKA The Gengetone Oga even pleaded with the governor to legalise marijuana so that men who have dealt with character development can meditate and forget about their bad experiences.
According to Shawboya’s lyrics, it is clear he had had prior experience with Nairobi ladies who probably treated him to a group of school’s character development.
Shawboya decided to endear himself with Kenya and it’s people by partially using Swahili in his verse.

To top off, his group Chop Life Gang thought it wise to feature a Kenyan artiste named Remy Vert to bring in the local vibe.
Not only did Shawboya alias The Gengetone Oga and his group-mate, Arif use Swahili but also exhibited their proficiency in the local slang, popularly known as Sheng.
Infused with a drill and Afro beat, Nairobi My City proves to be one of the biggest club bangers upon its release.
This writer had the privilege to sample Nairobi My City and confirmed indeed it will disturb the airwaves, give Kenyan artistes a run for their money and most importantly become a national anthem.
Of importance to note is the fact that, Shawboya has other earlier released songs, including Gengetone which put him on the map as far as the Kenyan music industry is concerned.
The Kenya Times understands Shawboya is the owner of Shawboya Records, where he has signed a couple of Nigerian and Kenyan music stars.
Shawboya’s Kenyan management in an exclusive interview with The Kenya Times promised fans that the Nairobi My City music video will debut soon, with more jams on the way afterwards.
