2024 Spotify Wrapped: Kenya’s Music and Podcast Culture

The much-anticipated 2024 Spotify Wrapped has officially dropped, and this year, it’s all about celebrating the fans, artists, and creators who made it a record-breaking year.

Kenyan music, podcasts, and artists have once again proven their power, with an exciting mix of local and international influences taking the spotlight.

Kenya’s Top Streamed Artists on Spotify Wrapped

Kenya’s music scene has been vibrant in 2024, with both new faces and icons dominating the airwaves.

Bien claims the top spot, followed by the high-energy Wakadinali, who continue to lead the charge in the Gengetone scene.

Sauti Sol, the globally acclaimed afro-pop band, continues to hold strong with their rich blend of music, securing the third spot. Kenya’s beloved rastaman Bensoul has taken fourth place.

Also, Lil Maina and Nyashinski have maintained a strong presence, taking the fifth and sixth places respectively. The two have consistently released diverse, dynamic, and always-evolving music.

Rising stars and artists including Okello Max, Chris Kaiga, and Nviiri the Storyteller have also grabbed a spot on the list, taking on the seventh, eighth and ninth spots. Otile Brown, known for his urban rhumba melodies rounds out the top ten.

Kenya’s Top Streamed Tracks

2024 has been a year of explosive tracks, with Kenyan artists creating anthems that have dominated playlists across the continent and the world.

The top streamed track, “NAKAM SAI” by Lil Maina and sosatheprodigyy, has stolen the spotlight, a reflection of Gengetone’s appeal in the country.

Bien’s tracks including  “Lifestyle”, “Inauma”, and “Ma Cherie” continue to charm the Kenyan scene at number two, five and six. We could easily call him the Kenyan GOAT.

“Anguka Nayo” by From The Hood Music, which quickly became a Kenyan anthem after the 2024 July protests has taken fourth place, while Bensoul’s “Extra Pressure”, music that brought fresh energy to the scene, grabbed the third spot. 

Other notable tracks on the top ten list include “Lele” by YBW Smith, at number seven,  “Set It” by Dyana Cods at number eight, and “Oversized T-shirt” by Matata at number nine.

The “Kudade (Fancy Fingers Refix)” by Fancy Fingers was another standout at position ten.
