ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi has said age still favours Kenya Kwanza candidates who lost in the Kakamega and Mombasa governor polls .
Mudavadi said although Cleophas Malala and Hassan Omar lost the elections, they still have ample time ahead of them to flip the script.
“Though Cleophas Malala and Hassan Omar Sarai did not triumph, they put up a gallant effort. Age is still on your side,” Mudavadi said in his consolation message.
The ODM party beat the United Democratic Alliance in the Mombasa race and floored ANC in Kakamega.
President-elect William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza camp which put up a spirited fight to try and wrestle the seats from the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition.
Fernandes Barasa won in Kakamega with 192,929 votes with Malala coming in second with 159, 508 votes.
In the Mombasa race, Abdulswamad Nassir won with 119,083 votes to floor UDA’s Hassan Omar who got 98,105 votes.
The Kakamega gubernatorial contest attracted a total of seven contestants.
The other five are former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo (UDP) who got 5,974 votes, Suleiman Sumba (Kanu) 178 votes, Samuel Omukoko (MDP) 761 votes, lawyer Michael Osundwa (Independent) garnered 1,146 votes and Austin Opitso Otieno (Independent) got 761 votes.
Other contestants in the Mombasa were Hezron Awiti of Vibrant Democratic Party (VDP), William Kingi of Pamoja African Alliance (PAA), Said Omar of Usawa Kwa Wote Party, Daniel Kitsao (Independent) and Shafi Makazi (Independent).
