Thirdway Alliance Kenya party leader Dr. Ekuru Aukot has criticized the opposition led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
In a statement on Sunday, May 26, Aukot said the Azimio Coalition has joined the government and forgotten their role as the opposition.
“The opposition in Kenya has always been an appendage of the government of the day. When invited to the table to eat, they forget Kenyans,” Aukot said.
Aukot explained that previous opposition party’s joined the ruling governments, and Azimio is not an exception.
“Recall the partnership and cooperation agreement of 1997, the coalition government of 2007, the Handshake of 2018, and now the current one of 2023. Once the opposition is in, they forget the word opposition,” he said.

Why Raila & Kalonzo Can’t Provide Solutions
However, the lawyer defended the opposition for failing to provide alternatives to the problems facing the country.
According to Aukot, the political environment doesn’t allow individuals who are not in power to give their opinions about the day-to-day operations of the government. He emphasized that the taxation system also blocks individuals from fighting and bringing change in governance.
“I agree you don’t have to be in power to bring change. However, the environment must be conducive for you to make a contribution. Irrational taxation is demeaning the capacity of individuals not in power to bring that change. Employers are lamenting. So are the employees,” he said.

Ruto US State Visit
Besides, Aukot opposed the pledges the United States (US) has made to Kenya after President William Ruto’s state visit.
For instance, he mentioned that the logistics advisor to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) is a euphemism for the head of KDF.
“It’s shameful that with all the great minds we have in Kenya, after 60 years, we go begging for a logistics advisor!” he said.
“Lest you forget, once America sets foot in a country, they never leave (and when they leave, the country is destroyed) – ask Philippines, Japan, Iraq, etc. This intrusion must be resisted and stopped by all means!”
Aukot said Kenya is blessed with enough resources and shouldn’t depend on foreign countries for support.
He explained that the government should prioritize industrialization and production of goods from the existing resources.

The Thirdway alliance party leaders added that the ‘goodies’ from US come with repercussions as witnessed in countries like Burkina Faso.
“Rajesh, our country is replete with resources. All we must do is industrialize and then produce because we have the material, and we don’t have to depend on other countries for goodies,” he said.
“Remember there is no such thing as a free lunch. Look at what Burkina Faso is doing. Watch this space.”
