The government has made a call to companies across the country to support the placement of over 45,000 youths in apprenticeship positions.
The move is part of a new employment initiative funded by the World Bank.
In a public notice released on May 20, the State Department for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy invited expressions of interest from private and public employers to participate in the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) program.
Further, the notice indicated that the program aims to provide on-the-job training and work experience to youths aged 18 to 29 across 47 counties.

How Companies Will Be Selected
Under the agreement, selected employers will be contracted to provide placement services and apprenticeship opportunities in both public and private institutions.
Additionally, the youths will work at the companies for the following three years.
Notably, the government is targeting at least three recruitment cycles, each offering placements to a minimum of 15,000 youths.
According to the tender, there are seven regional lots, each covering multiple counties.
The highest number of placements, 7,740, is expected in Lot 2 which covers Kisumu, Migori, Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Siaya, and other counties in the Western region.
Also, Nairobi, Kiambu, Kajiado, and Murang’a are covered under Lot 7, where 4,870 youths will be placed.
Successful firms will be responsible for identifying, placing, and supporting the beneficiaries in host companies for a period of 3 to 12 months, depending on employer capacity and program design.
