Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir was on Sunday, November 2023 heckled by residents of Sotik, Bomet County during a church event attended by President William Ruto.
The residents could be heard booing just after the Energy CS took to the podium to make his remarks at the function.
In an attempt to continue speaking after greeting the congregants, the residents heckled forcing CS Chirchir off the podium as his remarks were drowned out by boos and jeers.
“Thank you so much, Your Excellency, thank you for coming to pray with us today here in Sotik, it’s like home for me. As far as the electricity situation goes, we are going to fix it,” the CS stated in his short speech.
Further, Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok who was the emcee of the day intervened to restore peace and order during the event.
According to reports, Sotik residents were angered by the frequent power blackouts that have made it difficult for them to carry out their operations.
Worth noting is that Davis Chirchir has been making headlines recently in relation to inflated cost of fuel, the Government-to-Government oil agreement as well as the 17B oil saga.
Omtatah Slams Chirchir on Oil Saga

Likewise, the activist noted that the deal between Ann Njeri Njoroge and Cabinet Secretaries Davis Chirchir, and Kipchumba Murkomen on the importation of the Sh 17bn diesel went sour hence the ongoing tussle.
According to the legislator the money was irregularly withdrawn from the Ministry of Energy accounts, having been deposited from the Treasury which was in violation of the Public Finance Management Act.
“I challenge CS Chirchir and CS Murkomen to stop fooling the nation and come clean on their relationship with Anne Njeri, whom I reasonably believe is their front in the heist, whom they have fallen out with,” Omtatah stated.
Chirchir Response to Oil Saga
In response to the tussle, Chirchir insisted that businesswoman Ann Njeri presented forged documents with which she wanted to lay claim to 93,000 metric tonnes of diesel from Saudi Arabia saying the oil consignment belongs to Galana Energies.
In a statement on Wednesday 15th November 2023, the CS gave a chronology of events leading to the importation and eventual discharge of the consignment at the Kipevu Oil Storage Facility on November 4.
According to CS the true importer of the oil consignment in question is Aramco Trading Fujairah FZE through Galana Energies Limited, which furnished the Energy Ministry with the required documents for the Open Tendering Systems Agreement.
