Three suspects linked to the killing of Aisha Akinyi Abubakar, Acting County Elections Manager, Kilifi have been arrested.
Isa Omari, Brian Shikuku Mudari and Bryan Templer are accused of murdering the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) official on January 5, 2025.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) explained that the suspects were arrested through meticulous forensic analysis on January 13, 2025.
“They were flushed from their hideouts in separate but coordinated operations within the coastal region, following 7 days of rigorous manhunt for perpetrators of the 3am daring robbery,” DCI said.
Detectives recovered several exhibits from the suspects during the operation.
This includes one of the stolen phones belonging to the deceased’s son and other critical exhibits were recovered.
“The investigation remains ongoing,” DCI said.
According to DCI, the three were among the unknown number of people who attacked Abubakar and her son.
The unestablished number of home invaders forced entry into the house by cutting the grills of the kitchen window.
How Aisha Akinyi Abubakar Was Killed
The Agency reported that the attackers, armed with crude weapons, knocked Abubakar son unconscious before repeatedly stabbing her, ignoring her desperate pleas for mercy.
As Abubakar bled to death, the cold-blooded attackers fled with several valuables, including two Samsung phones, an iPad, a 65″ TV, a sound system, and ATM cards for which they had demanded the PINs.

Neighbors who heard the commotion rushed to the scene and attempted to save her life.
They rushed her to Premier Hospital in Nyali, but she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The DCI Kisauni took over the investigation, supported by the Operation Support Unit (OSU) and detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau.

IEBC Condemns the Murder
IEBC CEO Marjan Hussein Marjan said the Commission is saddened by her death and expressed deepest condolences to Aisha’s family, friends and colleagues for the tragic loss.
Marjan said IEBC is deeply concerned by the incident and condemns the perpetrators behind the murder.
Further, he called on the country’s security agencies to speedily investigate this heinous occurrence and apprehend her killers.
Aisha joined the Commission in 2012 as a Constituency Elections Coordinator for Nyali and was first deployed to Kilifi South.
