Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale on Wednesday October 30 shared insights into why impeached deputy President Rigathi Gachagua could not survive impeachment.
In a media interview with Citizen TV, Duale stated that the impeached Deputy President had lost many friends and gained numerous enemies during his two-and-a-half years in office.
As a result, the majority of leaders were unwilling to come to his aid during the impeachment process.
“If you asked me, it’s good to invest in friends. I think the former Deputy President invested more time in fighting people from his backyard and everywhere, including small people like Dennis Itumbi and Farouk Kibet.
Duale cites making enemies
When you are big you don’t come to ground zero, you stay up. He invested more time in creating enemies than friends,” Duale revealed.
Additionally, Duale suggested that Gachagua not being loyal to President William Ruto also made him to be impeached.

“Rigathi is a good man. He needed to be very loyal. I tell colleagues at the cabinet and many people that loyalty has a lot of dividends.
Loyalty pays, and I am a living example of loyalty. It is good to be loyal to your friend, to the constitution, and to the people of Kenya,” the Cabinet Secretary for Environment further revealed.
Environment CS reveals there was an “attempted coup”
In what appeared to be a politically charged comment, Duale suggested that one reason Gachagua could not escape impeachment was the “attempted coup” that occurred on June 25th, when Parliament was stormed and widespread demonstrations erupted against the Finance Bill 2024.
Duale noted that he was part of the Security Council at the time, serving as the Cabinet Secretary for Defense, and he was aware of the events taking place.
“There was a serious plan of regime change and that is why one of the charges brought against the impeachment motion was the National Security. You need to read between the lines,” Duale alleged.
Mwingi West MP Mwengi Mutuse tabled an impeachment motion in the National Assembly before lawmakers unanimously approved it.
Senators later upheld the ouster of Rigathi before President Ruto nominated Kithure Kindiki as the country’s next Deputy President.
However, the Court slammed brakes on the swearing-in of Kindiki after Gachagua challenged his impeachment and obtained conservatory orders stopping change of guard.

At the same time, Duale expressed his sentiments regarding the controversial bill which seeks to extend the Presidential term limiting saying that the Senate will shoot it down before the first reading.
“It will not even see the light of the day in the first reading in the Senate. That is not something that should worry Kenyans, that requires a referendum,” he added.
The former Majority Leader in the National Assembly added, “Cherargei needs two-thirds in the Senate and in the National Assembly, he won’t even get 10 people. Our party has made its position very clear, in our party nobody curtails the freedom of another. Why does he want to extend to 7 years? He must convince us.”
