Kingi said he received the minutes and the list of those who signed the petition to remove Sifuna.
“The minutes indicate that a resolution was passed to remove the Deputy Senate Minority Whip, Senator Edwin Sifuna, ” Kingi said.

Sifuna Ousted as ODM SG
This comes days after the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) formally removed Edwin Sifuna from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leadership register, bringing to a close the dispute over his position as the party’s Secretary-General.
The Registrar said the changes followed a review of documents submitted by ODM and found them to be in line with the party’s constitution.
In a letter addressed to Sifuna at his Parliament office, the Registrar confirmed that the changes submitted by ODM had been approved and entered into the official register of political parties.
According to the Registrar, the office reviewed the documents submitted by ODM before effecting the changes.
The Registrar said Sifuna was also given an opportunity to respond in line with Article 47 of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to fair administrative action.
“Upon review of the documents submitted by the party and the lack of response from you pursuant to Article 47 of the Constitution, we note that your removal from the office of the Party Secretary-General was in line with the Political Parties Act and the ODM Party Constitution,” the letter stated.
” Owing to the above this office has affected the change and updated the party records.”

Lawmaker Challenges Registrar’s Decision
Sifuna challenged the Registrar’s decision through his lawyers, accusing the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties of acting in bad faith and rushing to approve the changes.
He argued that the Registrar ignored submissions he had made in response to ODM’s request to remove him from office.
According to his lawyers, they wrote to the Registrar on June 30, 2026, challenging the documents submitted by ODM and defending Sifuna’s position as the party’s Secretary-General.
His lawyer, Isaac Okero, argued that the changes to ODM’s leadership records did not comply with the procedures set out under Section 22 of the Political Parties Act, rendering the decision unlawful.
Okero said Sifuna would seek legal redress to challenge the Registrar’s decision.
Sifuna’s removal comes amid growing speculation over his political future, and plans to formalize the Linda Mwananchi Movement.
