The family, friends, and colleagues of Captain George Ngatia Gichuru are mourning the tragic loss of the veteran pilot.
Captain George Ngatia died in a plane crash on March 22, 2025, southwest of Mogadishu, Somalia. He was 59 years old at the time of his passing.
His family in a notice has eulogized him as a highly accomplished aviator who will be remembered for his skill, courage, and dedication.
Further, while announcing his passing, his family said that a big void has been left by his untimely demise.
“With profound sadness and humble acceptance of God’s will, the Ngatia family announce the passing on to glory of Captain George Ngatia Gichuru, who tragically lost his life in a plane crash on 22nd March 2025, southwest of Mogadishu, in Somalia,” stated the notice.

The Family and Life of Captain George Ngatia
The captain is survived by his wife Lydia Wambui Ngatia, and two children, Wanjiku Ngatia and Gichuru Ngatia.
Moreover, he was the son of Aloysius Gichuru and Susan Wanjiku Kagondu and a brother to Anne Waceke Gichuru.
Also, he has been described as a passionate and skilled pilot who spent years navigating the skies with expertise and precision.
His career was marked by professionalism, grace, and a deep love for aviation and friends and colleagues say he was known for his warm smile, gentle heart, and unwavering commitment to his work and loved ones.

Funeral Service
A funeral service celebrating George’s life will be held on Tuesday, April 1st, 2025, at 09:00 AM at the International Christian Centre (ICC Nairobi), Mombasa Road, Nairobi.
However, prayers with the family are ongoing daily at ICC Nairobi from 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM until Friday, March 28th, 2025.
All who knew and loved George have been welcomed to attend and share in the remembrance of his remarkable life.
The Plane Crash
A Kenya-registered cargo aircraft crashed near Mogadishu, Somalia, on Saturday, March 22, claiming the lives of all five people on board.
According to the Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA), the flight had departed from Dhobley in the Lower Juba region after delivering supplies to the African Union forces and was en route to Aden Abdulle International Airport.
Initial reports indicated that four of the passengers were Kenyan nationals.
Further, the authority noted that the crash occurred around 5:43 PM local time, approximately 24 km southwest of Mogadishu.
The aircraft had experienced mechanical issues while in Dhobley, but these were allegedly fixed before takeoff.
