The Office of the Auditor-General has announced the passing of the Deputy Auditor General (DAG) Fredrick Oluoch Odhiambo, marking what has been described as a sudden and tremendous loss to the institution and the wider auditing community.
In a statement released on October 2, 2025, Auditor-General FCPA Nancy Gathungu conveyed the news with deep sorrow, confirming that the DAG, Fredrick Odhiambo, died on October 2, 2025, after a short illness.
“It is with profound sadness that I convey to you the sudden passing of the Deputy Auditor General (FAS2),” the statement read.

The Auditor-General hailed the late DAG Fredrick Oluoch as a focused leader whose dedication extended beyond Kenya’s borders.
“DAG Fredrick has been a focused leader who has made great contributions to the Office of the Auditor-General, the Nation and the global public sector auditing community,” Gathungu said.
The loss has been described as not only affecting the family of the departed but also the Office of the Auditor-General itself.
“This is a sudden and tremendous loss to his family and to the OAG family,” the Auditor-General added.
Further details regarding funeral arrangements are expected to be communicated in due course by the Deputy Auditor General Corporate Services, as consultations with the family continue.

In the meantime, the Auditor-General urged staff and the general public to keep the family, friends, and colleagues of the late official in their thoughts and prayers.
The late DAG has also been mourned by friends who were shocked by the news of his death.
“I always remember that he showered more times than I did in school, his clothes crisp and clean, and the gentle smile from his fleshy cheeks. I admired and respected him in as much as we seldom spoke,” mourned Larry Liza, a former schoolmate of the late DAG.
Fredrick Oluoch Odhiambo Education and Career Life
DAG Fredrick Oluoch,42, had an extensive academic and professional background.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) from Kisii University, an MBA in Strategic Management from Mount Kenya University (2022–2024), an MBA from Warwick Business School, and a master’s in public policy and management from the Kenya School of Government.

He was a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPA-K), a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), and a Certified Financial Services Auditor (CFSA).
His career spanned roles in multinational firms, lecturing in a Kenyan university, and serving as a Senior Auditor at Deloitte and later at KPMG in West and North Africa.
At 32, Fredrick Oluoch became Director of Forensics at the OAG, prior to his appointment as Deputy Auditor-General for Financial Audit Services in 2020.
In that role, he supervised over 1,200 auditors and implemented innovative strategies that expanded audit coverage of public expenditure nationwide in Kenya.
