Gideon Moi has reported a land parcel in Trans Nzoia County missing its original title grant, prompting a process to issue a provisional certificate.
In the Kenya Gazette dated October 2, 2026, the Registrar of Titles, F. K. Rop, issued a notice proposing the issue a provisional certificate for the property.
“WHEREAS Gideon Towett Moi, of P.O. Box 51990, Nairobi, in the Republic of Kenya, is registered as proprietor of all that piece of land known as L.R. No. 2116/1054, situate in the city of Kitale Municipality in Trans Nzoia District,” the notice stated.

Gazette Notice No. 15754 identifies the property as L.R. No. 2116/1054, situated in Kitale Municipality, Trans Nzoia District.
Records cited in the notice show that Moi is the registered proprietor of the parcel by virtue of a grant registered as I.R. 53898/1.
“…by virtue of a grant, registered as I.R. 53898/1, and whereas sufficient evidence has been adduced to show that the said grant has been lost.”
Sufficient evidence has been presented to show that the original grant has been lost.
A provisional certificate will be issued after 60 days from the date of the notice, provided no objection is received within that period.
“Notice is given that after the expiration of sixty (60) days from the date hereof, I shall issue a provisional certificate, provided that no objection has been received within that period,” the notice stated.

Kabarak Ancestral Estate
Daniel arap Moi’s will provided for a 931-hectare ancestral parcel at Kabarak to be divided equally among his five sons, including Gideon Moi.
Later accounts have put the Kabarak family holding at about 2,300 acres, with each son entitled to an equal share subject to the terms of the will and family arrangements.
40-Acre Kabarak Parcel
A separate 40-acre parcel at Kabarak has been at the center of a dispute involving Gideon Moi and the Chepkeres clan.
The land was gifted by Daniel Arap Moi to the clan and registered under Rift Valley Hatcheries Limited, which was associated with the late President.
A proposed survey allocated 40 acres to the Chepkeres clan, 30 acres to Kabarak University Vice-Chancellor Henry Kiplagat, and 30 acres to Gideon Moi.
USIU-Linked Land
Gideon Moi has also been linked to a separate land dispute involving the United States International University (USIU).

Land in the area was subdivided into 19 parcels in 1981, with Daniel Moi acquiring LR No. 12422/18 and LR No. 12422/19, each measuring about 40 acres.
Rift Valley Institute Land
In 2024, Parliament summoned Gideon Moi over about 5,000 acres associated with the Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology.
The institute occupies about 200 acres of the disputed land, valued at approximately KSh1.08 billion.
Gideon Moi chaired the institute’s board of trustees, which faced questions over the management of the parcels.
Ndung’u Report
Annexes to the 2004 Ndung’u Report listed Gideon Moi and his then-wife Zahra among individuals said to have received irregularly allocated public land. The list attributed about 44 hectares to them.
