In a disturbing incident, a video has surfaced online showing neighbors intervening in a domestic violence incident at Great Wall Gardens in Athi River, Machakos. The footage depicts a man allegedly attempting to throw his wife through a window on the fifth floor of Block E1.
Whistleblower Simon Muthiora posted the clip on Tuesday, March 4, saying that residents saved the life of a young woman who was clinging to the window of house No. 51. According to Muthiora, residents were awakened by the woman’s screams as her husband allegedly tried to force her through the bedroom window. The woman had been beaten for failing to go home on Saturday.

An estate resident who shared the clip with Muthiora said he and his wife saw the woman hanging from the window. “My wife and I began shouting, and more residents emerged from their houses to join us. We forcefully entered the house and rescued the woman, whose body was hanging from the window. Her strength had saved her before we arrived, as the man attempted to throw her from the fifth floor,” the resident said.

The footage shows angry residents confronting the man inside the house. “We will not accept violence. We have seen you trying to throw her through a window. We will throw you instead,” an angry woman said. The man then explained what had transpired leading to the incident. “She slept outside, returned this morning, and did not want me to tell her anything. She is the woman of the house. It was not the first time. Even I don’t sleep outside.”
The neighbors questioned why the man had resorted to violence to settle their differences. The incident was reported to the Athi River Police Station but calls to the station were not going through.
There have been several fatal fall incidents recorded recently in the country especially within the Kasarani area, with many of them involving young people who have fallen to their deaths under mysterious circumstances. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations in conjunction with the police are investigating the matter with the families of the victims suspecting foul play.
