The Kenya National Authority (KeNHA)has announced a one-month temporary traffic disruption at Gitaru Interchange on A8, an intersection of the Southern Bypass and Western Bypass from 19th November 2024 to 19th December 2024.
A public notice by the authority on November 13, 2024, made known the disruption at the same time stating the reasons.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) would like to inform the public of a temporary traffic disruption at Gitaru Interchange on A8 (Waiyaki Way) and Southern Bypass to Western Bypass,” the KeNHA statement read in part.
Further, the statement added, “This is due to scheduled road works for construction of the Right-Hand Side (RHS) Carriageway between Southern Bypass and Western Bypass, from Tuesday, November 19, 2024, to Thursday, December 19, 2024.”
Moreover, KeNHA advises motorists to follow the traffic management plan, project road signs and cooperate with police and traffic marshals on site.
KeNHA Update on Gitaru Interchange Progress
The Authority made an update on November 12, 2024, on the Gitaru interchange progress. Speaking on the progress the authority noted that the construction of Gitaru Interchange is taking shape.
“This is a major interchange that will link the Southern Bypass, Western Bypass, and A8 Road, delivering seamless connectivity and enhanced road safety,” KeNHA statement on the socials asserted.
Furthermore, they affirmed that the interchange promises faster commuting, easier access of the various intersections, and general growth for Nairobi and beyond upon completion.

Kahuho one of the X users questioned, “Why has the contractor completely ignored the section between university way roundabout to past Westlands which looks awful?”
“From there could the contractor move to Chiromo Road between Museum Hill and Wetlands roundabout on both sides kindly,” another social media user requested.
Yet another user complained citing that the Chinese built a culvert across the road at Imara without closing the road indicating that the closure is not necessary.

Kenya National Highways Authority
The Kenya National Highways Authority is a statutory body established under the Kenya Roads Act of 2007 and inaugurated in September 2008.
The authority is responsible for the development, rehabilitation, management and maintenance of all National Trunk Roads comprising Class S, A, and B roads.
KeNHA is headquartered in Nairobi and has ten regional offices and three corridor management offices. KeNHA is also in charge of all weighbridge installations.
