Kenyan doctor Paulyne Wairimu and the Medical Devices Lead at the Pharmacy and Poisons Board has landed a new international role.
In a statement, the Kenya Pharmacy and Poisons Board announced that she has been elected as the Chair of the African Medical Devices Forum (AMDF).

“Congratulations to Dr. Paulyne Wairimu, the Medical Devices Lead at the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, on her election as the Chair of the African Medical Devices Forum (AMDF) for the term 2025-2028,” read the statement.
Her election followed the African Union member states’ vote during the 2nd Heads of Market Authorization meeting in Addis Ababa.

According to the Pharmacy Kenya and Poisons Board, Wairimu’s election is a testament to her expertise and leadership in strengthening medical device regulation across the continent.
“Wishing her great success as she leads AMDF in advancing safe, effective, and quality medical technologies for Africa,” the authority added.

In her new role Wairimu will lead the advancement of the regulatory framework in Africa, supporting the operationalization of the African Medicines Agency (AMA) under the auspices of the African Union.
She will also represent the AMDF in international forums and conduct capacity-building workshops and webinars to strengthen regulatory functions.
Wairimu’s Career
Paulyne Wairimu has 15 years of experience in regulatory affairs. She has been leading policy framework development and implementation at the Pharmacy and Poisons Board in Kenya where she currently works as a Medical Devices Lead.
Wairimu has represented Kenya in various highly reputable global and continental bodies.
These organizations include the World Health Assembly (WHA), WHO-Pre-Qualification Assessment Team for In-Vitro Diagnostics, IMDRF, the Global Harmonization Working Party, African Medicines Regulation Harmonization (AMRH) Committee, the International Conference of Drug Regulatory Authorities (ICDRA).

Besides holding the position of Medical Devices Lead at the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, Wairimu is also a Deputy Director at Pharmacy and Poisons Board in Nairobi County. She also worked as a Pre-registration Pharmacist in Kenyatta National hospital.
On December 19, 2022, Dr. Paulyne Wairimu received the Outstanding Leadership Award at the Health 2.0 Conference held in Las Vegas, USA. Wairimu was honored alongside other visionaries and leading organizations for her significant contributions toward improving healthcare models globally.
She holds a Master of Advanced Studies in Adaptive Leadership & Strategy, International Negotiations, and Global Health Affairs, as well as an Executive Course in Global Health Diplomacy from the Geneva Graduate Institute.
Additionally, she has developed her leadership communication skills at INSEAD and earned a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from Cardiff University.
