A section of Kenyans has decried difficulties accessing accounts on the government’s digital service platform, eCitizen, raising concerns among users who depend on the portal for key services.
Users on a social media platform X (formerly Twitter) shared screenshots asking whether other Kenyans were experiencing the same issues, saying they were unable to log in even when entering correct credentials, disrupting transactions such as passport applications, payments, and other government services.
“Has anyone else noticed the E-Citizen portal is not working? Or am I the only one?” one user, @MiKids13, inquired.
eCitizen Access Error CrossCheck
A spot check by The Kenya Times found that some users could still see the “account does not exist” message when attempting to log in, leaving them unable to proceed with their applications or verify their profiles.
At the time of reporting, no official explanation had been issued on the cause of the access problems or when full service would be restored.

Earlier in the week, the office of the Auditor General, through a statement dated March 4, refuted reports claiming that KSh1.3 trillion transacted through the e-Citizen platform could not be accounted for.
“Our attention has been drawn to information circulating on social media citing the Auditor-General’s Report as the source of Ksh1.3 trillion allegedly lost or unaccounted for. This information is misleading as it has not emanated from the Office of the Auditor-General,” the OAG noted.
The claims that the funds were unaccounted for went viral on social media on Tuesday, sparking public uproar, with many users, especially on X, demanding an explanation.
The eCitizen platform, which every government institution is now required to use to collect payments under the law, was created to seal loopholes that saw the government lose revenue to graft.
