Safaricom Plc sparked widespread reactions on Thursday night after hinting that it could increase Fuliza limits for millions of its customers.
A post on July 2 from Safaricom read, “Tupandishe Fuliza Limit?”
The post has attracted thousands of comments from customers, with many expressing hope that they would qualify for higher limits, while others urged the telecommunications firm to roll out the increase as soon as possible.
Some customers said they had maintained consistent transaction histories for years but had seen little or no increase in their Fuliza limits.
Kenyans Complain About Low Fuliza Limits
One customer, Moseh Moses, said he had been transacting daily since 2019 and regularly handled large amounts, yet his Fuliza limit had only increased from KSh500 to KSh650 in May this year.
He commented, “I’ve been transacting daily since 2019, including large amounts, yet my Fuliza limit was only increased from KSh500 to KSh650 in May this year.”
Another customer, Ruby Likami, said she still has a Fuliza limit of zero despite being a frequent M-PESA user.
“My Fuliza limit is still zero even though I use M-PESA frequently,” Ruby Likami said.
Meanwhile, K’Omondi Jnr said his Fuliza limit had remained at KSh2,000 since 2021 before it was recently increased to KSh2,400, despite being a PostPay customer for more than 10 years.
Others complained that their Fuliza limits had remained at zero, while some said their limits had been reduced.

The telecommunications company advised customers to increase their M-PESA transactions, airtime purchases and savings through KCB M-PESA or M-Shwari, noting that these activities are considered during the monthly review of Fuliza limits.
Responding to concerns over reduced Fuliza limits, Safaricom said some customers’ limits may have been lowered due to non-repayment of loans.
The company advised customers to clear outstanding debts, including Okoa Jahazi balances, on time, noting that timely repayment is among the factors considered when reviewing Fuliza limits.

Every M-PESA-registered mobile number, Safaricom explained, is treated as a separate Fuliza account, meaning customers with multiple registered lines may qualify for a Fuliza limit on each line.
The company noted that each limit is reviewed every three months based on the customer’s usage and account activity.
To qualify for Fuliza, customers must have an active Safaricom line registered for M-PESA. Eligible users can activate the overdraft service by dialling *334# and selecting the Fuliza M-PESA option.
