Deputy President (DP) Kithure Kindiki has intensified efforts to challenge his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua, for control of the Mt. Kenya region.

Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri has been a beehive of activities in recent days.

He has been meeting leaders from various parts of the region and Rift Valley since his impeachment.

Kindiki appears to have intensified efforts to diminish Gachagua’s dominance and unite the region under his leadership.

The DP held a consultative meeting with a section of Members of Parliament (MPs) from Murang’a County.

Kindiki said the meeting was to deliberate on priority development programmes and projects.

Among the MPs who attended the meeting were Peter Kihungi (Kangema), Betty Maina (Woman Representative, Murang’a), Dr. Edwin Mugo (Mathioya) and Veronica Maina (Nominated Senator).

Gachagua Hosts Murang’a & Kisii MCAs

This follows Gachagua’s meeting with Members of County Assembly (MCAs) from Murang’a County on January 22, 2025.

Speaking after hosting the MCAs’ Gachagua emphasized that the MCAs are the voice of the people at the grassroots.

“They have shared with me what the people of Murang’a County are saying in the villages we all belong to. This forward-thinking mindset is essential as we aim to create sustainable solutions that will benefit generations to come,” Gachagua said.

On the same day, Gachagua held a meeting with MCAs from Kisii County.

He explained that Kenya’s hope and dream of the future must be re-gathered and re-focused in a truthful voice of the people as envisioned by our forefathers.

“The elected and nominated members of the County Assembly of Kisii, I have heard you, and I have heard the voice of the great people of Kisii County on matters of economy, social, and political future. Kenyans deserve to be listened to and deserve value for their taxes,” he said.

Meeting with Nakuru MCAs

Similarly, Gachagua held a consultative engagement with the elected MCAs from Nakuru on January 21.

He mentioned that the MCAs briefed him on the socioeconomic matters of the county and the priority of the people.

Gachagua explained that MCAs are the elected leaders who spend most of their time with the people hence their voice is a true reflection of Kenyans.

“I will continue engaging leaders from the grassroots to the national level to bring together a comprehensive report on the economic situation of the country and the way forward,” he said.

Kajiado & Narok Leaders

A day before, Gachagua had met with some leaders from Kajiado and Narok counties.

He commended the leaders for their immense knowledge and patriotism for Kenya.

“I have noted the concerns they have raised on issues that do not only affect the Maa community but also the entire Nation,” he said.

In addition, the Executive Committee of the Young Candidates Caucus (YCC) visited Gachagua on January 11.

The YCC is a group of young candidates, Gen Z, preparing to contest for MCA positions across the region.

Gachagua also hosted a delegation of elders from Kajiado West who had accompanied Engineer Dickson Ntikoisa to his home.
