As dates for KCSE exams approach, Kenya’s under-17 national women’s football team has qualified for the World Cup, which has been slated for October 16, 2024, to November 3, 2024.
The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) Chief Executive Officer David Njengere has applauded the team for making it to the Under-17 World Cup, assuring them that none of them will be disadvantaged in the administration of the national exams even as they represent the nation in the games.
This means that the examination body will explore the possibility of administering the exam abroad should it clash with their footballing calendar.
Ndegere was speaking at Utalii Hotel when he met the team whose impressive performance has received praise from Kenyans and other parties in the country’s sports arena.
Eight members of the team are candidates for the 2024 KCSE examination, which will run from October 10, 2024, to November 22, 2024.

Fifa will hold the women’s under-17 World Cup in the Dominican Republic.
Kenya qualified for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup for the first time on June 16, 2024, after beating Burundi 2-0 to seal an aggregate 5-0 victory in the two-legged qualifier. Marion Serenge scored the first goal before Valerie Nekesa came in with another and sealed the win. The match was played at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi.
The first leg was played in Addis Ababa where Kenya’s under-17 beat Burundi 3-0.
Other Under-17 Qualifiers in Fifa’s World Cup
Nigeria and Zambia are other African teams that have also qualified for the tournament. Other teams include Spain, the USA, Brazil, Colombia, Japan, England, and the host Dominican Republic,
This is the eighth under-17 women’s Fifa championship, and it will have 16 teams. However, in 2025, there will be 24 teams competing in the championship.
It remains to be seen how the young starlets will fare in the anticipated tournament.

Kenya’s under-17 starlets are an example to the national football men’s team which has had a tough streak in qualifying for major football championships.
Nonetheless, it recently scored its first victory in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. It beat Namibia 2-1 in a group J match played in Johannesburg, South Africa.
