Celebrated thespian, comedian, and content creator Njugush has faced what seems to be the first and biggest backlash of his career from the ruthless Kenyans on Twitter alias KOT.
This is after he posted a business promotional video of Equity Bank amidst numerous allegations of fraudulent activities within Equity Bank. The affected parties had aired their grievances through Kimuzi, a blogger who opened up a dialogue on Twitter. Many victims came forth with evidence of transactions that they claimed were unauthorized.
In the video, Njugush donned in school uniform, and he explains the perks of using Equity to pay school fees. He highlights the conveniences in his usual comical language. “Wazazi, I experienced the convenience first-hand at Meru School.” he said to motivate parents to use the services.

The video did not sit well with the KOT family, who accused him of “sanitizing” the bank’s name. He deleted the video shortly afterward, and in his defense, he said, “Nothing as sanitising. Actually it was a scheduled post, but the agenda must agenda, right?”
He, however, admitted that the timing was not the best, but nothing was affected as he has been in worse situations. “Affecting nope. Timing ndio mbaya (The timing was bad). But affecting nope we’ve been in worse situations bana,”.
In response to the allegations, Equity penned a letter to their users, advising them against using public wifi while conducting transactions, a. as one precaution. The bank further cautioned their members not to share personal data such as account number, card/CW, ID number, date of birth, etc., with anyone. Do not share their pin, password, or OTP with anyone, including their family, relatives, or friends. Not to engage fraudsters on call or sms. Equity will only call you at 0763 000 000.
