The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has reopened its portal for 2024 first revision of university and college courses.
KUCCPS reopened the portal on Monday, March 18 for placement to Universities, TVET Institutions, Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) and the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC).
In a statement, KUCCPS said the reopening of the portal targets first time applicants and those who did not secure any of their initial course choices.
“Target: Applicants who have not secured any of their choices submitted in February/March 2024. 2023 KCSE examination candidates with C+ and above who did not apply for Degree Programmes during the February/March 2024 application period,” KUCCPS said.
Besides, KUCCPS also encouraged form four leavers with any KCSE mean grade from year 2000 to 2023 who have never enrolled to tertiary institutions through KUCCPS to apply for TVET courses.
The portal will close on April 4, 2024.
“Those who submitted applications in February/March 2024 should confirm the status of their applications by logging into the KUCCPS Student’s Portal http://students.kuccps.net,” the statement read in part.
KUCCPS First Application
Applicants faced a range of challenges during the first application window that was closed on March 4.
Students and parents complained of delays while others said the system crashed at some point.
However, KUCCPS said it had fixed all the portal errors that applicants were experiencing and promised to give those locked another chance during the first revision of choices.

Speaking on March 8, KUCCPS CEO Dr Agnes Wahome said most of the students who qualified for TVET programmes had not applied by the time the application portal closed.
The CEO observed that candidates who scored grade E in the 2023 KCSE examination were the most affected as a majority of them had not submitted applications for placement.
“The system will open again in about a week or two to mop up more applicants,” she said.

Dr Wahome explained that technical training institutions have enough capacity to admit all qualified students.
Application Statistics
In a statement on March 5, KUCCPS said the application success rate increased despite the technical hitches raised by the applicants.
“As a result, 22,307 students have submitted their applications successfully on the KUCCPS portal in the last 24 hours. This is the highest number of successful applicants in 24 hours since the process began on February 7, 2024,” said KUCCPS.
According to KUCCPS, a total number of 144,102 who attained a mean grade of C+ and above in the KCSE 2023 had applied by close of business on March 1.
KUCCPS announced that it targets 173,178 (86%) of the students with C+ above to apply for placement this year based on the application trends of the 2022 KCSE candidates.
