Inua Jamii beneficiaries who lose or damage their payment card are required to pay a replacement fee, which is entirely the responsibility of the beneficiary.
While the program is transitioning to digital payments through M-Pesa, specific processes still require the physical card.
To replace a lost or damaged card, beneficiaries should follow these steps:
- Contact the Issuing Bank: Report the lost or damaged card to the bank that originally issued it. Follow the bank’s specific procedures to request a replacement. Beneficiaries should note that the bank will charge the replacement fee.
- Call the Inua Jamii Helpline: For guidance throughout the replacement process, beneficiaries can dial the toll-free line at 1533. The helpline guides coordinating with the bank and accessing funds while awaiting a new card.
- Seek Local Assistance: Sub-County officers and members of the Beneficiary Welfare Committee (BWC) are available to assist with inquiries, guidance, or payment-related issues to ensure a smooth replacement process.
How Disbursement Is Done
The disbursement is done electronically from the government to the six contracted banks, who subsequently credit beneficiaries’/caregivers’ Inua Jamii bank accounts.
The six contracted banks are:
- Co-operative Bank of Kenya Ltd
- Equity Bank Kenya Ltd
- Kenya Commercial Bank (Kenya) Ltd
- Kenya Post Office Savings Bank (Postbank)
- Kenya Women Finance Trust
- National Bank of Kenya.
In the case of dormant accounts, funds in the beneficiary’s account that remain unclaimed are clawed back to the Ministry’s holding account at the respective bank.

How to Withdraw Inua Jamii Cash Through M-PESA Using USSD
Inua Jamii rolled out a USSD code that allows beneficiaries and caregivers to withdraw cash from M-PESA.
Beneficiaries can access cash withdrawals by dialing *222# on their phone and following an easy process.
This initiative, effective from the January 2025 payment cycle, was to ensure all beneficiaries receive their stipends via the e-Citizen-Mpesa payment platform.
However, all beneficiaries must have Safaricom-registered lines that match their ID cards, and they must activate their M-PESA accounts to receive their funds.

In addition to withdrawing cash from agents, beneficiaries, and Caregivers can withdraw money from the Inua Jamii fund to their Safaricom-registered number.
From the registered line, they will be required to dial *222# and select Inua Jamii.
Select ‘Send money to my number,’ enter the M-PESA PIN, and wait for a confirmation message.
Once funds are transferred to their M-PESA number, any other transaction they make shall attract standard M-PESA charges.
