MCAs accused Mwangaza of committing seven violations which formed the basis of her impeachment.

In the first count, the MCAs accused Mwangaza of misappropriation and misuse of county resources.

Mwangaza is also accused of contempt of court, illegally naming a public road after her husband without following statutory procedures and contempt of the Assembly.

Further, the lawmakers argued that the governor made withdrawals of county funds under the guise of payment for various supplies that were made by her relatives.

She is also accused of taking her relatives on overseas trips in as experts

The MCAs also claimed Mwangaza diverted county resources for personal use.

In her defense, she stated that her rivals were just not ready for women leadership.

Senators voted to prosecute the impeachment of Mwangaza through plenary, defeating a motion that would have seen a committee dispense the matter.

The governor won as an independent candidate in the 2022 elections, beating veteran politicians like Kiraitu Murungi and Mithika Linturi.

President William Ruto later picked Linturi as Agriculture Cabinet Secretary, handing him a lifeline.

On the other hand, Ruto appointed Kiraitu, a Harvard Law graduate, as the Chairperson, National Oil Corporation.
