Parliament Grill SHA Over Irregular Expenditures
This comes after the Public Investments Committee on Social Services, Administration, and Agriculture on Monday, December 1, met with officials from the Social Health Authority (SHA), led by CEO Mercy Mwangangi, to address audit queries flagged by the Auditor-General for the financial years 2021/2022 to 2023/2024.
During the session, lawmakers questioned expenditures amounting to tens of millions of shillings, including unsupported board payments and irregular legal fees.
The Auditor-General reported that the SHA Board spent Ksh5.83 million on meetings that lacked signed attendance registers and board minutes.
The audit further revealed legal costs totalling Ksh247.8 million, including Ksh91.6 million paid out for cases collectively valued at only Ksh13.9 million, an overpayment of Ksh77.6 million.
