The Long Distance Drivers and Conductors Association (LDDCA) has announced that a bridge along the Muhoroni–Kisumu Road has been reopened and is now passable.

Motorists can now resume normal use of the route after the temporary disruption caused by the earlier closure of the bridge.

“One of the bridges between Muhoroni and Kisumu Road is now passable,” LODDCA confirmed.

The association confirmed that the section is safe for travel, allowing vehicles to move through the corridor as usual.

Drivers have been advised to continue exercising caution, adhere to traffic rules, and follow guidance from traffic officers while using the reopened route.

Muhoroni–Kisumu Road Closure

In a statement dated June 28, LODDCA confirmed the closure following the collapse of a bridge between Muhoroni and Kisumu, rendering the affected section impassable.

“One of the bridges between Muhoroni and Kisumu Road has collapsed. The road is impassable,” the association announced in a notice.

The association advised motorists to use alternative routes through Kericho or Chemelil as authorities assess the situation.

Further, LODDCA urged drivers to plan their journeys accordingly, follow traffic officers’ directions, and exercise caution while traveling.

“Motorists are advised to use alternative routes: Via Kericho or Via Chemelil. Please plan your journey accordingly. Follow directions from traffic officers,” the notice advised.

The Muhoroni–Kisumu Road runs from Mamboleo in Kisumu eastward through Miwani, Kibigori, Chemelil, and Muhoroni; under the wider upgrade project, it continues toward Kipsitet.

It is mainly in Kisumu County, with short stretches touching Nandi and Kericho counties.

Additionally, it is a key transport and sugar-cane corridor, linking Kisumu to the sugar belt and serving the Miwani, Chemelil, and Muhoroni sugar factories.

Londiani–Muhoroni Highway Snarled by Serious Crash

A serious road crash caused a major traffic snarl-up along the Londiani–Muhoroni Highway on Saturday morning, June 27, 2026, as rescue teams responded to the scene and authorities began assessing the situation.

Videos shared from the area showed a large white truck overturned and extensively damaged, with twisted metal and debris scattered across the road and roadside. A blue container truck was also visible nearby and appeared to have been heavily involved in the collision.

The impact of the crash spilled a large quantity of farm produce across the highway, adding to the disruption. Crowds of local residents gathered around the wreckage, with some people appearing to assist at the scene while others watched as emergency responders worked.

Additional footage showed emergency vehicles with flashing lights arriving at the scene as officials coordinated rescue and recovery efforts. Traffic built up in both directions, leaving motorists stranded for hours as authorities worked to clear the damaged vehicles and debris from the highway.

The collision significantly disrupted movement along the busy transport corridor linking parts of Kericho and Kisumu counties, affecting public transport, cargo movement, and private motorists.

Police later confirmed that investigations had been launched to establish the cause of the accident.
