Embakasi East Member of parliament (MP), Babu Owino, has been appointed to the Governing Board of Weldios University in Benin.
In a letter dated February 7, 2024, the University’s Chancellor, Dr. Chris Oyakhilome invited Babu Owino to assume the role, citing his track record in his various roles.
“Your excellence, panache, and dexterity of contribution to the wellbeing of the institution overtime coupled with your strength of character and integrity have led us to nominate you as a member of our prestigious Governing Board,” the invitation letter read in part.
In return, the legislator accepted the invitation, stating that he was ready to join the university’s governing board.
According to him, the appointment is not just an honor but an opportunity to contribute to an institution dedicated to education and development.
Embakasi MP Letter of Appreciation
“I take cognisance of the reality that history is not the burden of any one generation alone. As we stand at these defining moments, we stick out our necks and answer history’s call to respond to duty,” the MP shared in his appreciation letter.
“I want to offer my generation’s ideas and insight about the future even as I deeply apprentice under the guardianship of seniors in the academy.”
Babu Owino further acknowledged the significance of his role in shaping the future of academia.
He expressed his deep appreciation for the value of ideas in fostering development and recognized the University as a hotbed of progressive dialectics.
Babu Owino Acknowledging the University
“There is no better hotbed of ideas and progressive dialectics than at the Weldios University. Since November 2023, I have had a great honor of carrying a Doctorate degree conferred on me by the university,” Babu Owino added.
His appointment came two months after the University conferred him with an honorary doctorate degree in November 2023.
Babu lauded the University for honoring him twice, noting that it was a “call to serve a prestigious university”.
As the Embakasi MP embarks on this new chapter of his journey, he brings with him a wealth of experience, a dedication to service, and a vision for a brighter future for the University and the continent it serves.
His leadership background dates back to his days at the University of Nairobi where he served as the President of the students’ organization.
Currently, the University of Nairobi graduate is serving his second term as a legislator in Kenya and has emerged as a leading aspirant for the Nairobi gubernatorial race in 2027.
