Nollywood actor Pope Obumneme Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope, has been confirmed dead.
According to reports, Junior Pope died alongside three crew members after their boat capsized in Anam River, Anambra State while returning from a filming location on Wednesday, April 10.
His death was also confirmed by producer Stanley Nwoke who stated that the actor died after he was briefly resuscitated by doctors.
Nwoke took to his Instagram account to share the news.
According to reports, Pope was rejected by the morgue and later on revived before he was taken to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.
According to eyewitnesses, their speed boat collided with another boat and all the actors drowned in the river.

Junior Pope Video Before Accident
The Nigerian actor had shared a video of himself and others on a boat, before the incident.
Captioning the video, he wrote: “See me lamenting. The risk we take to entertain you, crossing river 9ja yesterday with no life jacket…. Nawao.Who does that ??”
In the video, Pope is also heard making a call and talking about his three children while riding through the river.
He also engages the captain of the speed boat to stop overspeeding.
“I am begging the captain that I am the only child and I have three children I am raising. He should reduce his speed,” he says amidst laughter.
Junior Pope started his career in acting and made his debut in Nollywood in 2006.
Some of Junior Pope’s notable performances include roles in movies such as “Secret Adventure,” where he showcased his action skills, “Nkwocha,” a drama that highlights societal issues, and “Bachelor Eve”, a comedy that displays his comedic timing.

Other Nigerian Actors Who Have Died in 2024
Pope’s death comes almost two weeks after Amaechi Muonagor passed away on Sunday, March 24.
It was reported that Muonagor died due to kidney related complications, diabetes, and stroke.
The actor also posted a video before his death asking for help to undergo a kidney transplant.
Another popular actor John Okafor, alias ‘Mr Ibu’ also died on, March 2, 2024.
Mr Ibu passed on at a hospital in Lagos after months of battle with illness.
The actor equally posted a video of himself in October 2023 appealing for financial assistance to cater for his health expenses.
