Nation Media Group (NMG) has announced a quartet of qualified professionals slated to join its Board of Directors, effective May 2, 2024.
The newly appointed persons are expected to bring a wealth of expertise across diverse sectors, poised to steer the media company towards new heights.
Spearheading the list is Sultan Ali Akbar Allana, appointed as a Non-Executive Director of the company.
Allana boasts a career spanning four decades, notably as the Head of Financial Institutions Group at the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED).
His background in retail, corporate, and investment banking, coupled with his role as Chairman of Pakistan’s largest commercial bank, Habib Bank Limited (HBL), positions him to NMG’s strategic vision.

Recognized for his commitment to financial inclusion, Allana’s accolades include awards bestowed by the Pakistani government.
Joining Allana is Fayyaz Nurmohamed, appointed as another Non-Executive Director of Nation Media Group.
With a tenure of nearly 25 years serving as the Director of Communications for His Highness the Aga Khan and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), Nurmohamed brings expertise in global communications strategy.
His previous role includes coordinating policy, strategy, and planning across various AKDN agencies.
Another addition to the Board is Nancy Matimu, appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director of the company effective May 2, 2024.
Matimu’s career spans leadership roles in multinational corporations such as MultiChoice Kenya and Mastercard, where she led in marketing and business development.

Experience and Innovation
According to NMG, her extensive board experience and commitment to educational initiatives position her as a catalyst for innovation and growth within NMG.
Completing the ensemble is Richard Tobiko, appointed as an Alternate Director to Mr. Stephen Gitagama, the Group Chief Executive Officer.
Tobiko, currently serving as the Chief Financial Officer at NMG, has a background in finance and strategy, honed through executive positions at multinational corporations and financial institutions.
He is also currently a non- executive director and the Chairman of the Audit Committee at Property Development and Management (PDM).
He was appointed Group Finance Director at Nation Media Group in 2018 and Chief Financial Officer in 2022.

Angela Namwakira, the Company Secretary, expressed the Board’s collective enthusiasm for the newly appointed directors.
