Raila Addresses Mysterious Murder of Kenyan Women

Azimio Leader Raila Odinga has condemned the increasing cases of the murder of women that continues to be reported in the country.

In a statement on Wednesday, January 17, the opposition leader shared his concern for the lives of women in the country as well as their families. 

He noted that the death of the young women was leaving a trail of grief for many families and friends of the deceased.

Further, Raila highlighted the abnormalities of the murders stating that it cannot be accepted as a normal occurrence in the country.

According to Raila, the troubling cases is a matter of national emergency and a threat to homeland security.

“It is sad to see a troubling increase in the deaths of young women, leaving a trail of grief for families and friends. The abnormality of these murders cannot become the new normal.

“Murder is and will always be wrong, and there is no excuse. The ugly scourge of murder of women is now a national emergency. It is a threat to homeland security. It must come to an end,” he stated.

Raila Responding to Roysambu Airbnb Murder 

Raila’s sentiments followed a January 14, incident where a 20-year-old woman was found gruesomely murdered at an Airbnb in Roysambu.

According to police in the area, the body of a middle-aged woman was discovered with some body parts chopped off and stuffed in a polyethene bag.

A team of detectives stationed at the Kasarani Police Station confirmed that investigations into the cause of the death had commenced with the major focus being on the CCTV cameras mounted in the area.

According to a prior police report, the management of the apartment where the lady was murdered discovered her dismembered body after a routine check on Sunday, January 14 morning.

Earlier, a body of a naked woman was discovered on Saturday, January 13, in a river around the Lucky Summer area in Kasarani. 

As per a police report, the body of a middle-aged woman was found stashed in sack and with stab wounds on the neck which were inflicted on the deceased before her death.

At the time, the hands and legs of the woman were tied which initially concealed the body as a luggage.

Additionally, Nairobi Police Commandant Adamson Bungei confirmed the death noting that the body was transferred to the City Morturary pending more investigations.

The incident came barely a week after news about the murder of Starlet Wahu, a socialite, was reported. 

New Airbnb rules
In response to the news of the murders, the Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA) published a list of new guidelines to ensure accountability. 

The new regulations will require occupants of accommodation rooms will henceforth be required to surrender identification details to the relevant security personnel manning the premises.

Further, the ministry of tourism announced the formation of new regulations for tourism and hospitality enterprises in the country.
According to the ministry, although tourism and hospitality enterprises in Kenya were relatively safe, it was important to address the growing cases of murders in Airbnb’s in the country by establishing the new regulations.
