President William Ruto has asked for forgiveness from Tanzania and other neighboring countries if Kenya has wronged them in the past.
While speaking at a Prayer Breakfast on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, Ruto asked for forgiveness on Kenyans behalf.
“Our neighbors from Tanzania if we have wronged you in any way, please forgive us. If there is anything that Kenyans have done that is not right we want to apologize.
To our neighbors, if their is any misstep we have done, we also apologize,” Ruto said.
Ruto Asks for Forgiveness from Kenya’s Neighbors
President Ruto emphasized that having good relationships with its neighbors will enable Kenya to prosper as a country.
“We want to build the relationship that will make our country great and will take us forward,” said the Head of state.
At the same time, the Head of State emphasized the importance of political leaders working together for the sake of unity, championing his broad-based government.

For his part, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who was also present at the Prayer Breakfast, emphasized the importance of young people respecting the elderly.
“As much as we agree with the need for us to reconcile and build relationships with our children we respectfully request our children also to realize that there is a role we can play,” Kindiki said.
Suluhu Vows to Protect Tanzania from External Influence
President Ruto’s apology comes just days after Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu reiterated that she would not allow outsiders to interfere in Tanzania’s internal affairs, referring to a group of Kenyans who had traveled to Tanzania to witness the trial of opposition leader Tundu Lissu.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed government officials at the State House in Dar es Salaam, President Suluhu called for the need to shield Tanzania from external individuals who are attempting to destabilize the nation.
“Let us not allow people from other countries to come and cause chaos among us. Protecting this nation requires both you and me, so I urge you to safeguard our country starting today,” she said.
Among Kenyans deported by the Tanzania administration were former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga, People’s Liberation Party Leader Martha Karua, Activists, Hanifa Adan, Hussein Khalid and Hanifa Adan.
