President William Ruto hosted Tinsley Nduta who went viral on social media after the president announced May 13,2024 as school reopening date.
Tinsley was captured crying on camera when Ruto announced the sudden reopening of schools, and that short clip granted her a visit to the State House Nairobi on May 20.
In a statement, Ruto said Tinsley was accompanied by her mother Agnes Wairimu, father George Ngugi and sister Maureen Wambeti during the visit.
“Hosted four-year old Tinsley Nduta, a pupil at Lizzie Wanyoike Preparatory School who became a social media sensation after expressing her reluctance about school reopening,” Ruto said.
During the visit, the president explained the role of education in preparing children to be resourceful to the society in future.
Tinsley was reluctant to resume learning for term two but changed her mind a call from President Ruto.
“She had a change of heart following a persuasive phone conversation I had with her last week. I emphasised the critical role of education in shaping young minds and preparing them for productive roles in society,” Ruto said.
Ruto-Tinsley Phone Call
Previously, the president reached out to Tinsley through her mother’s phone to explain the need for sudden reopening of schools.
In the video shared on social media on May 12, Ruto is heard talking to Agnes Wairimu and asking if he could talk to Tinsley.
“Can I speak to Mama Tinsley, habari yako mum and happy Mother’s Day. My name is William Ruto. I am happy to talk to you, I have been looking for you,” Ruto said.

“I saw a beautiful lady there complaining about the reopening of schools, so I decided to look for her so that I try explaining why we have to reopen schools.”

When Tinsley was handed the phone, the president goes ahead to introduce himself and started the conversation by asking her whether she went to Church.
“When I saw you asking why Ruto said people should go back, I decided to call you so that I can explain you have to go to school,” he said.

Meet Up Plans
As the conversation progressed, Tinsley asked the president to create time and meet her on Friday, May 17.
In his response, Ruto promised to organize for a meeting but told the littler to ensure she goes to school the following day.
“Do you want to see me Tinsley? I will organize it so that we can meet on Friday. Just go back to school and tell your friends Ruto has said they are going back to school,” he said.
President Ruto told Tinsley about the Kenya Meteorological Department predictions that the rains will reduce allowing schools to reopen.
